Whoa. Talk about a conundrum, I am trying to decide what to write to myself in an e-mail to be delivered to me in 20 years. Here is what I settled on:
To the 42 year old me,
Forbes.com, the website of a financial/business magazine is hosting an “e-mail time capsule system” saying that so long as all goes according to plan and their redundancies do not all fail you will get this message in 2025, 20 years from now.
I agonized over what was worthy of including in this e-mail and what wasn’t until I got sick of thinking about it and just whipped it out. Hopefully they are at least somewhat amusing/interesting and you aren’t too adulty to enjoy it.
Personal
- I am in my Sr. year in college, planning to graduate in about 6months.
- I am interviewing like crazy, but am only interested in a very select few of the companies/jobs (BigBlue and Staples probably being at the top)
- TheGirl and I celebrated our 2.5yr dating anniversary (omitting the month or so when she DUMPED ME!). We have talked a lot about doing whatever it takes to stay together after graduation, and I am confident that we can and will pull it off one way or another.
Currently in the World
- The Democratic National Party picked (John Kerry) one of the 9 people on earth pathetic enough to lose the Presidential election to the sorry excuse of an incumbent (George W. Bush) forcing us into an abysmal 4 more years, and about a year into the 2nd term I am laughing sickly at the fact that Bush has a 32% approval rating - the lowest in 60 years - for a US President.
- Hurricane Katrina re-arranged New Orleans for the worse. Should be interesting to see what NO is when you read this again.
- We are (still) at war “against terror” in Iraq, though Saddam Hussein has been in jail for 3 years and there is absolutely no evidence of weapons of mass destruction… Bush’s original allegation leveraging enough support for the attack (see 2 bullets up).
- China may very well be in the beginning stages of taking over the world. More details to come by the time you are reading this again.
- Social Security is going broke, there is an energy crisis (see key comparison points below), and Alan Greenspan is ending is reign as chairman of the Federal Reserve a reign nearly unanimously successful. He is likely to be replaced by Ben Bernanke (pending confirmation).
Key Comparisons
- Regular unleaded gas has come down from about $3/gallon right after Hurricane Katrina and leveled off at about $2.50/gallon.
- The housing boom is said to be “leveling off” or “preparing for a bubble burst” depending on who you ask. In Phoenix the median home price is right around $250,000.
- Today I bought two Take 5 candy bars (1.5oz each) for $1.09, and two Mountain Dew Code Red sodas (20oz each) for $2.22 on sale at the Circle K convenience store at Dobson and Guadalupe.
- ASU is growing like crazy based on Dr. Crow’s “One University in Many Places” vision. Currently there are about 50,000 students at the Tempe campus, and another 10,000ish spread between the Polytechnic and West campuses. The Downtown Campus is going to officially open next fall if all goes according to plan.
Well MahiX2, I hope you have done well for yourself. If things go according to plan you should have your MBA long completed, hopefully a JD or PhD to boot. Hopefully you have a nice but modest home with a smart wife, 2.2 kids, and a great dane that could eat a small city.
Hopefully we haven’t invaded any more undeserving rebel countries killing another 2,000 or more of our soldiers.
Hopefully we have solved some of the world problems like AIDS, and poverty.
Hopefully all of my good friends of today are still good friends and at the very least are healthy and successful.
Hopefully you are still maintaining MahiX2.com and are keeping it on the bleeding edge of semantics and functionality.
Hopefully you are happy.
