What is better than spending a weekend in the woods with 100 other people? Spending a weekend in the woods with 85 freshman and 15 W.P. Carey School of Business staff members.
This past weekend I was up in Prescott Valley at Camp Wamotochick for the inaugural year of Camp Carey. Camp Carey was designed to give freshman coming in to ASU as Pre Business students an opportunity to:
Meet other students
Learn more about the W.P. Carey School of Business
Gain skills which will be valuable in the future (ie: the Professional Program application)
Lucky for me, it was also a ton of fun. The 9 froshys on Jen and my team were awesome and provided many interesting memories, stories, and rock paper scissors matches.

Why don’t ya’ll suckas head over to the State Press Hurricane Katrina Blog and peep the newest author on the block.
It turns out that this year’s State Press Editor in Chief is an old high school buddy (that’s weird that I have those now). After perusing the State Press site many times, I came to the conclusion that the State Press blogs… well, they suck. So, I figured I’d shoot the ‘ole Mustang mate of mine an e-mail:
Hey “Jane”,
First, I heard you are sitting in the big seat over there at the State Press this year - Congrats!
Second, I have to say that the State Press Blog is L-A-M-E! In fact, they really SUCK. So, being a devoted Sun Devil, a closet writer, and an avid blogger, I am writing in hopes that you will give me the opportunity to spice that thing up.
I have been blogging for about 3 years personally in a few different forums for a few different types of audiences, and if you must I would be glad to show some off. However, I am under the school of thought that those writings will prove to be inconsequential to the type of writing I would love to bring to the State Press. If given the opportunity, I would bring regular updates on ranging topics related to ASU in a professional yet conversational tone - all the best that blogs have to offer. And best of all, I don’t know how you guys run things over there at the ‘Press, but I require no pay. I would do it for the love of writing.
Let me know what you think, and if necessary how I can further sell you on why I should be given the opportunity.
Sure enough, she bit, and I was put into what I believe is “review mode” as I am delegated only to the Hurricane Katrina blog for the time being, but hopefully as I prove that I am not writing to give public shout outs or bash the “liberal media” they’ll grant me a little more freedom.
So check out the ‘ole State Press blogs, and leave a comment - if they see that people are hitting that site maybe they will realize their potential and get things rolling.
I’m off to Prescott for the weekend - showin a bunch of froshy’s the ropes of college (as if I know).
