Haiku
Sitting here in the BAC Lab I overheard two students planning a party and talking about the wonderful veggie party platters that were going to make the party “so fun”. I then decided that the following haiku would most appropriately express my feelings toward their situation.
Parties featuring
“Veggie Party Platters” are
Not, in fact, parties.
I recommend they rethink their plans… I wrote a haiku that may help them:
Parties that feature
beer, naked chicks, and more beer
are the best parties.

ICANN, the International Consortium for Assigned Names and Numbers, who basically makes the decisions of all decisions related to the internet is currently considering the addition of some new TLD’s (top level domains). Top Level Domains are the endings of websites such as .com, .net, .org, and so on.
Sitepoint an internet news/business site shares the facts and touches on the possibility of an interesting problem/opportunity/race. Wouldn’t it be nice to be the first to register www.microsoft.mobi?

Hacker Handle
Props to RootCompromise for creating the Hacker Handle Generator.
Besides this just being a pretty fresh idea, this site also earns bonus points from me for making my hacker handle “angry scorpion” which is somewhat appropriate as I happen to be a Scorpio, and most of all for correctly citing Hackers and the phrase “fakin the funk” which this site as well as its now defunct predecessor (thahookup.net) used to use as its slogan…motto…tagline.
What is your hacker handle?

Spizam
I thought I had it bad when it came to spam. I actively send/receive e-mail through 8 e-mail addresses, and on a daily basis is it pretty common to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 125 spam messages per day compared to anywhere from 10-30 “real” messages.
The other day I came across this blog where the author saved ALL of his emails for the last 9 years or so and recently made a graph to show the trends of spam, viruses, and size of e-mails. Very interesting. I especially like the analyzation of the extrema of the second graph where the largest email is rediculously large due to it containing four bitmap images which happen to be screenshots of four different pages of one Word document. The author comments on the attachments: “Perhaps one of the most inefficient ways of distributing a four-page document.” While I found this comment hilarious at first, I read through most of the comments to find out that it was an executive of the company who sent that email. Apparently the said executive was behind the times in either the know how of attaching the Word doc itself or using Adobe to create a file that cannot be modified if that was the purpose.
I hope to one day be an executive who can get away with blatantly ignorant shit like that. Furthermore, I hate spam, and seeing as how this post touches on my hatred for spam, a recent post touched on my hatred for a particular few radio advertisements, and a similar post is in the works regarding tv ads, I can smell a “worst things in life” list coming on strong.
It would probably be interesting to continue where the author left off and look at the spam/virus trend again in 2, 5, and 10 years. What does the future hold??

In the interest and possibility of me actually getting around to work on this site sometime soon, I am entertaining ideas of what should be changed. Here are a couple Payne brought forth which may or may not make the cut. One: actually make my q/a a real page, and actually answer questions asked by you readers (Feel free to post your questions under comments). Two: Since the Game Plan tab is currently useless and I really have no clue on how I can make it worthwhile, I will abort the “game plan” idea in exchange for a “crew” or “community” page where frequent readers will be granted posting access and may post whatever they would like… yep… free reign… let the immaturity begin (of course leave a request for privileges in the comments and yee shall receive).
Other site improvements/changes will likely include adding a template to the comments window, correcting the trackback feature, doing SOMETHING (what is yet to be determined) with the categories links on the right, adding a link blog or side blog or something like that, fine tuning the color scheme/visual layout of the entire site, and whatever you readers can dream up.
Finally, if anyone can find a winamp plugin that will actually work to display my “currently playing” song without causing a clusterfuck of away messages to plague my desktop I would be quite happy.
